Elín Margot is a food designer/artist currently located in Reykjavík, Iceland.

She graduated from a BA in product design at the Burgundy Superior School of Applied Art (ÉSAAB); a MA in social design at the Insitu Lab and a MA in critical/speculative design at the Icelandic University of the Arts.

Lately she has been focusing on the representation of gender in our food habits, questioning our interspecies relationships in our food system and creating a gentle activism through food practices such as fermentation.

Food is a carrier of culture, it is the holistic result of innumerable human interactions, technologies and beliefs and has the incredible power of shaping our society. Elín Margot creates unique foods and eating experiences that question our present society and explore alternative futures. Food here is both an artistic medium and a communication tool she uses to create convivial multi-sensory edible events. By displaying real elements of a food fiction, she calls on the audience's judgement and hopes to create debate in the experimenter’s mind.

“Eating and its associated activities are
embodied, social practices that are meaningful
and meaning‐making.”
